Mid-Plains Community College, also known as MPCC, is a community college found in North Platte, Nebraska. The school was established because of Nebraska legislation that was enacted in 1973. The school is also a result of a merger between three schools; the Mid Plains Vocational Technical school established in 1967, the North Platte Junior College established in 1965, and the McCook Junior College, established in 1926.
Mid Plains Community College serves a large area made up of 18 counties. Aside from the three main campus sites, there are also several satellite campuses found in Imperial, Broken Bow, Ogallala, and Valentine counties. The school has also now been offering courses through distance learning or with the online campus. MPCC receives as average enrollment of close to 16,000 credit and non credit students each year.
Because of the large number of health care workers in the area, MPCC has increased the health care programs offered to students. The college has made partnerships with hospitals, health care facilities and clinics to help train and provide health care workers. Although there is an increase in the programs offered by the school, there is still a large demand for health care workers in the area. Among the programs offered by the school includes degrees in Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of General Studies, Associate of Occupational Studies, Associate of Applied Science, Associate Degree Nursing and several other certificates and diplomas.
McCook Community College's True Hall, which built in 1937, has been home to its competitive sports program for more than 70 years and is now being used by MPCC athletic program. The McCook athletic teams were called the Indians, while the North Platte teams were called the Knights.
